Garden redesigned by some Clever Clogs

The children at one of Hartlepool’s biggest nurseries are getting ready for a summer of fun as £10,000 is invested in an educational and exciting new garden for them to explore.

Backed by Hartlepool Borough Council, the new owners of Clever Clogs Day Nursery on Throston Grange Lane are transforming the current garden into a safe, educational and relaxing space where children can learn about the environment and develop a love of the great outdoors.

Boasting play and educational areas, the garden design includes a vegetable garden where children will be taught about the health benefits of and how to grow fresh vegetables, (low positioned) child-friendly chalk boards and a log pile where they can search for creepy crawlies.

In addition, the garden will include a sandpit, performance stage, playhouse and decking area, imbedded tyres, digging areas and flower potting areas.  The existing metal fencing will be covered in willow to add privacy and locked gates added to increase security in the nursery garden.

Andrea Townsley founder of the Clever Clogs Nursery chain – which includes two other nurseries in Durham – said:  “Having invested a lot of time and money in decorating the whole nursery, investing in new toys and training staff since we took over the nursery in February it is great to see the garden starting to take shape and the final piece of our jigsaw fitting into place just in time for the summer.

“We aim to mirror our philosophies of exploration, growth, learning and physical development in our outdoor space so we designed the facilities to enable the children to learn about the environment, while also providing areas for them to play and exercise, which are essential to healthy child development.”

Clever Clogs Nursery in Hartlepool became part of a chain of three nurseries when it was taken over in February this year.  The first Clever Clogs nursery was founded in 2007 by business woman and mother of three Andrea Townsley who purpose built her flagship nursery in Belmont, Durham.  Belmont Clever Clogs has recently been awarded an outstanding grading by Ofsted – a feat shared by less than seven per cent of nurseries in England.

Almost £0.5m has been invested in the acquisition of the two new nurseries in Hartlepool and Bowburn, Durham which were bought due to demand for space at the Belmont Clever Clogs Nursery.

Hartlepool Clever Clogs Nursery has recently taken on three new employees and there is potential to double the number of jobs at the nursery once it reaches capacity.   The highly qualified nursery team are able to offer childcare for 80 0-5 year olds.
